Research application

Schisandra is a kind of Chinese medicine astringent, but clinical observations in the past two decades show that Schisandra has a good therapeutic effect on hepatitis.

(L) Schisandra has a significant effect on lowering serum alanine aminotransferase in patients with hepatitis B. The mechanism is to inhibit the synthesis of enzymes by hepatocytes, which has no obvious effect on the normal liver, and inhibits the enzyme activity even more on the damaged liver.

(2) It has an effect on improving systemic symptoms, such as loss of appetite, fatigue, and insomnia. It can protect the liver and promote the regeneration of liver cells, enhance the liver's detoxification function and enhance the adrenal cortex function, so as to restore the liver function.

Liu Gengtao, a researcher at the Second Division of Pharmacology Research, Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He first pioneered the field of liver biochemical pharmacology in China in the 1970s. He focused on Chinese herbal medicine. He successively focused on Schisandra, Ganoderma lucidum, Huangpi Ye and Tetrahydro yellow. The pharmacological effects of lotusine and other anti-hepatocyte damage have been systematically studied and found that these compounds have many unique pharmacological activities. In carrying out research on anti-hepatitis drugs, he chose the liver as the target organ of Chinese herbal medicine to "strengthen the body" from the practice of Chinese herbal medicine, and worked with colleagues in the research group to first prove that the various ingredients in the traditional Chinese medicine Schisandra can protect the liver from some Chemical poison damage, and can antagonize oxygen free radical damage, stimulate liver anabolism and enhance the activity of cytochrome P450. He cooperated with medicinal chemistry and pharmacological experts, and found that its analogue bifendate  has obvious effects of reducing transaminase and protecting the liver based on the synthesis of Schisandrin C.

The development and application of Schisandra is also mainly focused on new drugs for the treatment of hepatitis.
